What is rhythm!

 ↓
Things which happen with the same interval (or with the same pattern)
  ---  isochrony (等時性/とうじせい/toujisei)
 
The term " isochrony" refers to the phenomenon that in a stress-timed language, such as English, stressed syllables follow each other at approximately equal time intervals (Pike, 1945)  quoted from Lehiste(1976).

 Haiku/はいく/俳句" consists of 5 + 7 + 5 syllables. 
Japanese language is a 4 beat (four-four time) or 2 beat(two‐four time) language. as the slide p. 8 shows, they are all odd numbers, but if the rest included, it becomes 4 beats.
 
 中庸の文化(chuyou no bunka)/Culture of moderation
   中庸 (chuyou)/moderation:  originated in Confucianism and means "to be in harmony without extremes or excesses".
引く文化(hiku bunnka)/Culture of subtracting 
 cut out as much unnecessary stuff as possible

Final-syllable vowel lengthening
Final Lengthening is a common cross-linguistic phenomenon with considerable variation in scope and degree.  quoted from Paschen et al.(2022). 
 
Final vowel weakening in Japanese.
 Final vowels tend to be weakened in Japanese.
 Sometimes it is not pronounced at all.
 eg.
  私  は  学生  です。 = I'm a student.
わたし は がくせい です. 
watashi wa gakusei desu ← final /u/ sound is not often pronounced. 
 
※Weak vowels are often omitted/ 弱い母音はしばしば省略される。
